Portage Concerts
Portage Concerts
"Portage" (pronounced in the French way (por-táge) and traditionally a place where the voyageurs had to carry their freight from one body of water to another, which they did in huge loads weighing 180 or 270 pounds) is simply the whimsical term we use to label our storytelling concerts on tour, or "concerts to go," as we sometimes call them. These are occasions when other people hire us to entertain at events they have organized, such as dinners, parties, or festivals.
Most often we are asked to provide after-dinner entertainment, ranging from half-hour recital to a full concert. Usually we are asked for the lighter, more humorous end of our repertoire, and people seem to enjoy it.
Our rates depend on the size of the event, the distance we must travel, and our expenses.
We are available from October to May for engagements anywhere, and from June to September within the Grey-Bruce region.
Our most recent Portage appearance was in a series of concerts in Port Huron, Michigan, for the benefit of the St. Clair County Library. Coming next is:
The Storytelling Festival of Toronto, April 4th and 5th, www.storytellingtoronto.org
